The hard evidence is starting to etch off of Weezy's armor and cred. Point to Gillie for shelling out numerous hilarious disses that put Weezy's 'Best Rapper Alive' title into question. Who is Gillie? Well, he's now been accruing more points as his disses aren't so far off. Weezy still kills beats and blasts past many if not all right now "I'm so hot I could look into the suns eye." Weezy's time may be running thin: we saw Weezy and Baby kiss and now who is jackin styles? Wobby, wobbly what? What was that Weezy? Gillie has his Ca$h Money impersonations down to a science. A Little Soul Sampling

Sampling a piece of music may not be creating your own work yet the reason I fell in love with rap and its beats was this flipping of old works. I've always been enamored too when upon hearing tracks with a sample, of finding the original piece of work. Being swayed by beats (and conversely not the lyrics) as much as I am, the sampled new songs make me listen again and again. Even the slightest bit of a sped up hook of a woman's voice can make a song for me, so it's interesting to see how much the producer has or hasn't changed the original. At times the new sampled track blows the older version out of the water, although other times its nicer to hear the orignal song without all that jive talk. Today we've got Curtis Mayfield whose other non-sampled material is groovy to say the least; the 80s RnB group El Debarge whose songs hold their own; Temptations once front man, David Ruffin whose work I just stumbled on (Shout out to Mally on this one). So without further ado, some samples (every once in a while I hope to put more samples up) and comment if you'd like on the new/old songs.

A 4th Quarter Comeback?

Jay Z Kingdom Come
Hov is back, this time with a new swagger and he ain't jacking it. All the hype surrounding Jay's three year hiatus is monumental and expectations are through the roof. With that said, Jay doesn't deliver as his album just doesn't have that special feeling as the predecessors, Volume 2, Blueprint and Black album had. Even with my bias against Jay, he can do no wrong, all you have to do is listen. He opens stronger than ever as the first half of the album is a classic. "Prelude" is another beautiful intro... "ya gangsta look did it!" Just Blaze's "Oh My God" goes bezerk. Kanye keeps it to a minimum while John Legend kills the hook on "Do You Wanna Ride" and Jay doesn't hold back either. And Jay ends his career on a high note with the best beat of the album on "Beach Chair". "Minority Report" is a decent track and "Trouble" is troubling;Dre's beat is awkward and Jay goes all over the place. His third verse is sick though. The reason this isn't close to his best work is his beats (over the entire album) aren't banging and he talks too much about grown folks rap. What a concept? Grown folks don't rap, hmm Jay? Take heed!

Game Dr.s Advocate
The West Coast may not be back just because Game claims it over the entire 16 tracks. It would only be back if it had some true rappers. The Game isn't one, yet, especially with so much help in his corner. Again with my bias of Game's lyrical content, he does deliver an entertaining album. From start to finish its better than expected. Well,yes, he had top prodcution, which did its job and then some. The best track on DA is "Scream On Em" partly because he fouces on one subject and spits. Game makes the West Coast shine on, "California Vacation", "Compton" and "Da Shit". His groupie diss "Wouldn't Get Far" with Kanye's syntalating beat is a plus. And then Game starts getting real with Busta on "Doctor's Advocate". "Why They Hate the Game" with Nas is a good track for many reasons, but why Just Blaze and Game think it warranted 9 minutes? DA is better than the Documentary and he steps up his flow and delviery. Yet until he changes his name dropping problem he wont be the best on the West.

AZ The Format
I lost track of AZ, but the Format delivers an actual album with rythum and feeling. AZ doesn't go too far either, keeping NYC. I didn't even have to touch the playlist as I let AZ run - this happens very rarely. You know what to expect from AZ too, but he actually delivers.The titled track, " The Format" is one of the best beats of the year. The soul samples along with AZ's aziatic flow on "I Am the Truth" and "Sit Em Back Slow" are tracks you can vibe to. AZ delivers a good sendoff with "Royal Salute". A sleeper album of the year, AZ takes back credit where its due.

Young Jeezy I Am the Street Dream
With Jeezy dropping on 12/12, this DJ Drama affiliated preview will hold you for the a few weeks until Mr. 17.5 drops. It isn't anything to miss though, even to Jeezy fans. Only a few tracks stand out and none of them are better than Feburary's Cant Ban the Snowman. Apparently Jeezy copped the new Ferrari cuz he don't like to walk in "I Got What it Takes". "Child of God (Bury Me a G)" was released a few weeks ago and is said to be on the album. It's a better than usual Jeezy track. Two other decent tracks: "Don't Ever Do That" and "Let's Just Say".

A 4th Quarter Comeback?

Jim Jones Hustler’s P.O.M.E.
Jones’ third album in as many years would have you believe he’s holding his weight. While he barely holds his own as an actual rapper, he knows as well as anyone else: his antics are entertaining; we’re all having a good time laughing at him and the joke’s on him. Regardless if you’re a Dipset fan or not Jones’ newfound style is a breath of fresh air. Although, Jones’ ‘Ballin’ ain’t so; the fun only lasts a few songs. A plus is “Pin the Tail”, a track featuring the Dipset. By the end of “Reppin Time”, you’re ready to throw this as far as possible. The album contains a few worthy tracks as it starts out high, “Intro”, but the best was oddly left off the album. The remixes of “Fly High”, “Fly High w/ TI, Diddy, Dro and Baby” and “Fly High w/Don Omar, Daddy Yankee and Tego” are divert your attention away from Jimmy, which is always a good thing. Two glaring absentees, “Black Superman and Credibility” were sorely missed. And in fact the album should have been a duet album with Max B. Jone’s "POME" is a huge improvent over last years "Diary", yet each album contains the exact same material. Sorry Jimmy what you want me to do. Dry those tears, just keep Bawlin.

Fat Joe Me, Myself and I
Joey knows better. I was waiting for this one, as "All or Nothing" showed Joey was on the come-up. Yet this time he thought he was ready for a classic? With 12 tracks and few features (and not from NY), he used the formula that has worked so many others: when you’re ready, do IT yourself. His content is, to the dismay of others, much the same: shooting, trials, guns. Yada, yada, yada. It was a good attempt, Joey, just not a valiant one. Few songs will stick. No club or up-tempo songs? “Make it Rain” w/ Weezy wasn’t much of a real single. The production should have varied, as the Street Runners and Grind Music take over. The opening is decent “Pandemic” and "Damn" bangs. His other song with Weezy “The Profit” and “Hard to Kill” have repeat listen stamped all over. "Me, Myself and I" isn’t bad, it’s just nothing to miss. Joey comes as usual, but just not with the intensity you’d expect he was capable of.

Amused by the BET Hip-Hop Awards

Step your game up BET! Why do your productions always seem like they’re missing something? Either the sound was off last night during the performances or the MCs were off (a little bit of both I’ll say). And no swearing during songs? C’mon, bleep it out! Ya’ll worse than MTV with that stuff... Katt Williams, mm hmm... Flava Flav is not funny. He should be sent to gulag... Weezy wasn’t dancing when B.G. came on during the “Top Back” remix, yet he was like a little hyena during the rest of the performances... Why Snoop seem like he was the only one with some bud and drank in his system. E’erbody else seemed stuck up... How come the real members of hip-hop had to freestyle outside on the street while the poppy rappers were chilling inside?... Jimmy and Elz looked like Cherish with them girly jeans… (a side note to why Jimmy aint Ballin’! last week when his POME dropped, he was on 106 & Park. His video was # 2 and Capo + Elz was plugging. Rocsi/ Terrance were signing off and the number # 1 video is… “Jay Z – Show Me What You Got”.)... Why Jay have to win already?... Katt Williams taking a shot at Hov? At the end of “Ballin”, “Some people dislike Dipset”... Styles look like he threw on whatever, from the streets... Rhymefest and Saigiddy finally on TV... Jeezy cannot perform! He missed his cue so many times... Luda, Luda, Luda! Wrecked it, again. Nice T too, it’s true people!... Rick Ross? Why?... No Joc? Yes... No Kanye? No, I so wanted him not to win another award!... Pharrell, Scott Storch, Fat Joe M.I.A.... Did I spot Celly Cel?... Busta all of a sudden speaking the truth - too late for that... Chamillionaire is the most respectful rapper I’ve ever come across. I don’t care too much for his music but he’s a good dude... The Game looked uncomfortable onstage. Maybe that’s why it didn’t seem like the crowd was that hyped, not many stood. Why the comment about 50? I thought it was over and no beef with Jay? Did you want to get dealt?... No Nas? 40 must have smacked his kufi... Weezy lost MVP to TI? Something's wrong... And finally Unk sure walked it out!

So when you find Osama, we only want his head, seriously. You will be given a Coleman cooler, like hospitals use for kidney storage, and you will behead Osama and carry it back to America. From the Tora Boras, you will be dropped in Eastern Turkey and you will need to cross the border using the espionage you learned from Assassins.
In Basra you will meet your partners in freedom: Blondie (yes Clint Eastwood in full attire), Robocop and Axel Foley. This team is all you need to get the job done. We assembled this group of wily, decisive Americans to win this “War on Terror”. Now here me out Rambo – you are the main ingredient here. The others were contracted merely for the sake of well balanced attack. You are the Killing Machine. You will unleash the “Terror” on terrorists. Robocop will be dropped off in Baghdad to take up the Iraqi police force. He will train the corps and fight the insurgents within Iraqi cities. Blondie will roam and let him – otherwise he’ll get into a squinting contest and it may last the whole war. We told Blondie, Tuco was on the loose again with some stash worth millions buried inside Iraq. He’ll battle the nomad insurgents while searching for Tuco and his treasure in a glaring Iraqi oasis. Axel Foley will leave for Iran and spy their underground nuclear sites. He’s so damn funny; he’ll need no help from us.
And now you, Rambo, all you have to do is: kill anyone who isn’t an American. We really don’t care about being Mr. Nice Guy anymore – we’ll just put the blame on some stupid teenager who didn’t study in high school and who’s “stuck in Iraq”. The order: body counts and in the thousands! Do I make myself clear?
I know you might be a tad reluctant but this is for America’s freedom and Operation Liberation. We’ll pay top dollar too! Remember Abu Ghraib? Want to go to Guantanamo? Didn’t think so. Just help us get out of this mess, please and Godspeed.
