Nas Hip Hop is Dead
Nas comes and goes. Alas, Nas, there's no anthems. There's complaining and such, along with the usual East Coast slang. "Hip-Hop Is Dead" is Nas' best effort in recent years accounting for his trash known as "Street Disciple". Yet as much as Nas is able, like his label mate Jay Z, to come back and produce an actual album that has lasting measures, he's not the least bit exciting. Nas is like an old grandpa who nags and whines. Truth be told, the elderly have great stories of the girt and grime from yesteryear, yet I can get that from my moms? He seems to have been sitting at home with Kelis and thought, 'Hmm, these punks need to lean something!' At least he got the motivation to go back in the studio somehow. Nas, or grandpa Nas, I don't want to hear anymore of your stories, harks or diatribes of what life used to be. And Hip-Hop aint dead as you think, Nas - it may have lost its intended mission, but to make such inexorable statements would be Hip-Hop itself.

Project Pat Crook by the Book
Project Pat is elementary, my dear. From being a causual fan from his earlier projects, Pat has always stuck with me more than Three Six Mafia or any other Memphis, Tenners. Ah, it's the fundamentals that never leave your side. Pat has a distinct voice, yes, but what's more, and what has maybe kept him around this long, is his style. I can't quite describe it yet it is basic to say the least. He repeats his hooks and uses lay terms so often to describe his life (as in "I aint going back to jail, I aint going back to jail"), that at first it may be laugable. It's like okay, Pat, we get the point, you have made it painstakingly clear that you do not want to go back to jail, give it a rest. After my laughter subsided, I've come to appreciate Pat's simple approach. In a game that tells its players, "Step up yo Vocab", Pat remains an "Illiterate son-of-a-bitch" and I like that, it's Pat.
