Live Free or Die Hard

Those are the choices? I guess I don’t want to “Die Hard”. Who honestly fills the “Die Hard” circle?

The title of the fourth installment of the Die Hard series is aptly infused with an air of a “War on Terror” ideology. Live Free or Die Hard is reminiscent of Bush’s “You are either with us or against us.” I’m supposed to rely on a bumbling, rogue policeman distraught with bureaucracy to quell chaos for my well being. McLane, Bruce Willis, hobbles in torn wife beaters, dodging flying cars—anything necessary, at all costs—for freedom. Yelling “Yipppikaye motherfucker” is what freedom sounds like? Those commercials did say “In McLane we trust”.

So if I want to live free, than who do I owe? America’s recent actions serve freedom as a choice, not a right; it’s a divine intervention and you can be saved. In the fight against terrorism we give up rights in order to live freer.

The easiest way to scare people is a security issue. There’s a monster under your bed. Trust me, when my brother told me that when we were little, I shut up and listened to him. So when we see 9/11, Madrid, London—and now Glasgow—we’re supposed to believe you? Al-Qaeda is a hot mess, rubbage, we know that. Boogie monsters are plastered on the nightly news, so it’s no wonder America has backed its citizens into a corner. If you’ve seen Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, safety is the second step. America isn’t a third world so they at least feed and shelter its people, even if it’s public housing (Complain? Go to North Korea, you ungrateful bastard!). America is invading our psyche. They’re pushing and molding the second step in our quest to reach self-actualization. There’s a guy with a gun on every corner, looking for your daughter and he’s going to rape her but not without blowing her up. Talk about the boogie man. This is fear mongering. And I believe already… kill em, kill em, kill em even if they innocent!

Since 2003, the beginning of the War in Iraq, there has been 750 Iraqis allowed refugee status and given American citizenship. During 1999 through 2003, there were more than 8,000. The Hmong, an oppressed Laotian minority, much like the Kurds, helped fight with the U.S. during the Vietnam for freedom. They’re homeland was bombed severely. Native Americans haven’t been free since the 15th century. Slavery was a form of freedom, “away from those pre-historic badlands of Africa”. The Western United States was Mexico and Florida was Cuba (Spanish). Why do you think America is a melting pot?

Do the Sudanese, the Darfur crisis, want to “Die Hard”? Well, they are because there’s no financial benefit to be made by Westerners. And they really are backed by Al-Qaeda, unlike Iraq. America is too scared to stand up to Al-Qaeda, they don't want a real jihad.

Opportunity ain’t free. Education ain’t free. Health-care ain’t free. Water ain’t free. Walking around in my city ain’t free. Free speech ain’t free. Practicing religion ain’t free. Hell, this space ain’t free! Did you know Google, who owns blogspot, suppresses news reporting Tibetan injustices so China can allow Google to operate within their ever emerging and lucrative market? I shouldn’t have to choose, I am already free... Freedom is never free; you've got to earn it even if it means fighting, scraping, struggling, dying.
