Now why can't this be played a million times in the club. Part of me wants to think "Whopping it out" is another made up gimmick like Joc's Motorcylce dance. Even though my car's not a club, and this is certainly club music, I've been riding around this past weekend bumping it. I'm over not knowing what it means--Ray Cash may be back because it's definitely been a while. The only pause I took while listening was the content and flow aren't necessarily original. Lupe Fiasco Hip-Hop Saved My Life

That was it, huh. Straight forward indeed. It matches the song but damn if the video was boring. And those camoes were pretty weak--what they could only stay on set for 20 minutes? Even considering a small budget, they didn't do much at all. The FNF crew could have done it themselves, months earlier. "Joell Ortiz. Aftermath!" I say that like 5 times a day.

The fact that he ain't on Aftermath/Interscope is the saddest thing. "So what if I got dropped!" If one of the nicest dudes can't stay on a major label long enough to even record, what's the game to do? I have this sick feeling in my stomach that Ortiz will never be realized. It's '08 and he won't release this year. Old age in the Rap world comes quick. That window is closing.

Recently Joell hasn't been killing joints. He do be offering us strict "stoop" rhymes but that can get tiresome. "So what if I sit on my stoop." Oddly though, I rarely tire of Ortiz. It's in his flow; he switches it up and you just know that he could murder a real beat (those grey day New York beats aren't real beats!). Peep "Fighters". And sometimes I crown him just on a few bars alone. Even though he doesn't provide the best verse on "Hostile" remix (that's Talib), he provides the most memorable line, "Lord you know I ain't out here tryna freeze my wrist." He's one of a few too that I could listen to all day, everyday. I mean, I just pull up a chair and cop a squat.

T-Pizzle is similiar to VD. Yeah, he doesn't seem to go away. If y'all remember I had a T-Pain week last summer. And if you hadn't guessed, it was a huge joke. A rephrase: I hate the Pain. But then as much as I dislike him, I can't help to have a sweet tooth for him too. I like his music in the most goofiest way possible. I know it doesn't add up but the Pizzle gets more spins than Talib Kweli.

The blogsphere placed Weezy* as the number one whore but as much as he does, doesn't T-Pain invade our psyche even more so? He's featured everywhere on the radio; he's the first look for weak Southern artists; the perfect "It" man for a hook; and he's taken over solid music person's career in Kanye West. THEN how do we explain that he managed to be featured on Snoop's single "Sexual Eruption" and Weezy*'s single "Lollipop" without literally being on there. Are they not channeling their inner T-Pain? The wackest, least talented, can't dance, can't dance (yeah, I said it twice), can't dance, isn't the least bit attractive (looks like a tarantula) is being copied!?! What is this world coming too.

How do I explain that I utterly hated Lil Mama's "Get Loose" when I saw it a while back. But thanks to BET and T-Pain's sick as verse (w/ a grain a salt remember), I can't stop reciting it. I guess the Pizzle gets the best of us...

I gave up on MC year ago but why T-Pain? You are a Diva and you're hanging out with him. How come I see that top hat/Mad Hatter shit the Pizzle's rocking is going to be a hot item in '08? T-Pain is not a good luck charm, damint!

Differing Thoughts

Is it me that finds something off with Black Thought. I've always heard his name in the "Best MC's" category. I'd push him towards the middle. The content he speaks on automatically gives him a plus. But on pure skills, he's not extraodrinary. Creativeness can be thin at times. Metaphors are quite literal. More often than not, Black Thought seems to be screaming into a megaphone, veins poppin out and all. It's as if he's down there trying to reach us. The rawness of Black though is his essential trait; he survives off that expression of emotion. And his sort of goofy remarks speckled throughout his rhymes are always a nice contrast from such an intelligent rapper. Don't get me wrong, I like "75 Bars" and "Get Busy"--and I will cop that Rising Down. At times though, Black Thought, and maybe The Roots in general, seem to blend together. It's always this underground true Hip-Hop feel. If I learned anything from Little Brother, it's that artists can, and should be, different or offer another side. I don't want to degrade Black some more but The Roots collective, i.e. ?uestlove, Kirk, Hubbard (well, formerly) et al offer more alluring elements than Black Thought. Their carving brand of live Hip-Hop may be more important than what Black has to offer.

Termanology + ST da Squad: Hold Up, Wait

Crews and squads are usually led by a leader. And that leader reigns supreme. Rarely do we see that a king ushers in a worthy prince. Not to be overly critical but we get the same faceless dudes on Term's new ST mixtape. The 14 tracks are by no means weak though, it's been on my Winamp repeat since midweek. I'm digging the straight music on the tape; there's no illegitamite shinning. There's no fanfare that they're waiting for either; they just push it out. The worst part of the Squad is that they seem to be ridding Term's coat tail by shadowing his flow. And that's never a good thing. I can tell them apart by the differences aren't anything to tell about. Ghetto does it more than once and a few of the other hangers-on play 'mr. me too' too. However, I've never had a problem with Ea$y Money. With the video, it was nice to see the Squad, you know, put names to faces. As one of my friends remarked, "They're all 'Ricans. And why does Clip look like he should be in Miami?" Yeah he's rocking shades in Boston's cold ass weather. Damn, I thought Ghetto was black. Regardless of how I feel, it's more Term and that's always a good thing. He's just become my next favorite rapper in the last few months. Add original good beats, longer song times and okay rhymes and you got me. Plus Term and Co. offer just enough to make still salivate. They didn't kill the tape... so I can wait for more.

"Music Industry", "Welcome to the Machine" and "Has It Ever Occured" were heard in advance and they're still banging. Those 40 seconds of Term on "Music" are euphoria. I'll reiterate that Term's anti-music biz rants are a nice quality. We know he won't sell out. "Has It", from Hood Politics 5, has Ea$y Money and Term, a cool combo, again going at Rappers and the biz. "Every song ya on is like P.M. Dawn."

"It's ST the Squad" is the copycat song. Maybe they wanted uniformity with the flow, I don't know. It sort of ruins the song at times. The street wars M.O. exhibited also gets to me too. "It's Our Time" has Ea$y showing off, in a good way and Term using ST as a rhyme point. "If we don't make money, we gon ST-ill."

The beat on "The Burial" is chyperish. Here's where da Squad shows their worth. At times, as hard as they may sound, the rhymes are kind of funny. I don't want to continue to tear da Squad apart but listening to Term's verse, he shows why he's the kid. He manages to not say anything but he expands his subject matter with his choice words and their inflection. It's his lyrical dexterity that sets him apart.

I won't act like I remember this track... if this was Rich Boy's original verse: I ain't mad. Weezy* killed the track in his own way. The Oscar talk was all I needed. See, he can hang with the big boys. But then Nas comes in and kills it too. What is it about Nas cominng hard on features? Hopefully this is a sign that both of these dudes can still deliver.

Now here's a wasted song. Banging beat for the ride but all we get is Swizzy's raps!?! Why couldn't he give this to a Southern artist... like somebody from Houston!

Recently I haven't been that high on S-K. But sometimes I have to remember that Skyzoo's at his best when he's subtle. Check for his alliteration "I've been liftin the limits of lyrics since i've been living so lyrically aint a lyric vivdly livin." Oh, and Black's remix beat is "Necessary Evils" is okay but the beat, OMG!

What you want me to say? I hate the Timbo beat but then I like it, especially the breakdown. Too long? Yeah but it's cool at parts. The hook still rubs me the wrong way--I guess it's the quintessential Jay Z though.
