The quick transition from "Got Em Hatin" to "Shawty" seems skeptical. That thug attitude didn't sell huh? Plies really is Joe Budden's "Morris Day ass nigga". Y'all can thank me for the courtesy when he's exposed. But SERIOUSLY don't tell Plies... he'll sever his promise to seranade me with a rose in his mouth.

"Young, Gifted & Strapped" is quintessential Hell Rell. Try to contradict Hell on his claim of having a ruger for every glock. I did once and he proved it to me by showing me his trunk. I guess it goes without saying that since he has shooters on every block, dice games will be shot up; it's a natural occurrence. But I think he says he airs dice games out because Hell is a crazy motherfucker that doesn't give a shit, hence his previous incarceration. So that's how he got locked up? The line that makes this song lewd is his ring tone. I want that sound, whatever it is. Is that even a sound? "Fthfthfthfth!" And his website plug is great, "fuckeverybody.com". Check it out though, he's got stills of him and his ruger in provocative positions. His bravado continues as he fires at someone's chest. Hell has the childish audacity to ask him "what that vest like?" It's like Hell, 'you shot me in the chest, I'm dead.' They say criminals never grow up, hmmm sounds right. He has relations with women and then disposes like he has amnesia. His rugerosterone rises. Before Clipse? So Hell's been grinding since the days of the book of Rugeronemy? More shots are fired. "im thinking palm trees", so he's on vacation with Killa?

Hell Rell doesn't lie. He is the "The New Gun in Town". I wonder why Ruger Rell hasn't moved out West, you know, where he could start his own city, Rugerville, where shootouts are like a televised game show.

This song gives life and meaning to those who are passionately in a state of disregard. As silly as Ruger Rell sounds, I'm sure more than a few subscribe, and worse, practice Rugerisms.

Don't Spread: Soulja Boy

If you’ve lived after hearing his single "Crank Dat Soulja Boy (Supaman Dat Hoe)", double check to see if you can still hear and think clearly. For those who have not heard it, I advise not to. If you’re inclined to do so, proceed with extreme caution; make sure you have adult supervision when listening so they can slap the shit out of you when go retarded.

Now I still champion Southern music. But this snap shit has got to go. Or at the least, it has to take more of a back seat. More like a permanent seat that is just for the club and dance records. It certainly does not deserve national attention. Label heads have feasted on this and national outlets are the main reason why Da Shop Boyz’ "Rock Star" and Hurricane Chris’ "Ay Bay Bay" are granted top spots. I’m not hating—actually I am—on people getting their money but Da Shop Boyz are exploiting the world; they reek like, well, as much as Ozzy Osbourne does. "Rock Star" is ruining minds.



Blake kind of got me going because he posted a video of Soulja Boy's dance. Nothing at Blake but I didn't realize Soulja Boy was this big. I had heard about him for a few months but I just didn't think it was like this.

Soulja Boy touts on his MySpace that he ranks number 1 in hits, plays and page views out of all 30 million independent artists. Friend Blaster aside, I’m beginning to believe that people, kids or not, actually think this is good music. I checked his page the other day and at 2 PM, he had 20k listens. I started to cry inside. Is this what the Rap game is coming to?

Be forewarned if you haven’t been already because within months Soulja Boy will take over everything. The "hood" is even backing him as DJ Scream features him on a new tape. I refused to listen but my brother got an earlier mixtape, Stacks on Deck. How do people think a song called "Doo Doo Head" is cool? It's about stinky breath but does that constitute a song. Is Soulja Boy Rap's version of Radio Disney? "I Got Some Bapes" tells of his Bapes collection. "Left Foot In" retells every song from the ATL in the past few years. Months ago I thought "I Just Got My Report Card" was a joke from some bored MySpace kid down south. "Shootout"? Can he even pick up a gun? Shut up and stop repeating "Shoot it"!

I need to stop. I'm previewing this tape while I write this. Soulja Boy has given me a headache. Seriously. I feel dumber because I listened to this. I feel my brain cells are evaporating as we speak.

These aren't songs. The hooks extend to the verses. The lyrics are a mockery to everyone who makes music or is a fan of music. The beats are extremely regular and trashy. Yelling "Aaaaa!" in every song doesn't work (it never has really), plus it seems if you yell "Aaaaa!", it's a party starter... no you just learnt the first letter of the alphabet. "Bbbbb!"

I know Soulja Boy is a kid and is marketing to kids. But someone needs to spank him. Kids who read this (if they can, LOL!) please don't think Soulja Boy is cool. Just say NO! If anyone sees Soulja Boy, slap the shit out of his monkey ass!

Being a blogger

With my 1 year anniversary coming up July 6th, it’s a weird feeling: damn that went fast! I’ve spent this much time on here? It’s a cool feeling to know you’ve done 1 year of blogging. The only reason I’m making any deal out of this is that I am uncertain I’ll be here July 6th, 2008. It’s not like I’m giving up but being a blogger takes a lot out of you and there is a constant personal struggle.

Is this really worth it?

In order to be a successful blogger, you need passion, diligence and a unique outlook. It may help to write in complete sentences too. It might, depends how stupid your audience is.

The biggest obstacle in blogging is returning everyday. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve felt and thought about quitting. The reasons are many. Personal satisfaction is huge and may take time to reach its full potential. I blog for fun and the love for Rap music but I want to be heard. Ratings fluctuate. For me though, it has been a steady, slow rise over the year. Although I don’t care how many people read me, the more regular hits I get, the more motivated I become (hence this last month’s invigoration)… so yeah, I do care how I am perceived.

Then there is content. You feel the pressure to be timely, the first to post news, music or reactions. I’ve given up on that. I like to stay away from most popular topics and if I do comment on something, I like to take my time with it. Rushing things is the worst and I’ve done it before and it really shows. This is especially pressing with music. I always feel the need to be the first one to post the new Weezy* or T.I. or Jay Z material. I like to be competitive. However, being humble has always won me points and I will stick with it. But more than the Jay Zs, I like to offer the potential music that blows up, becomes hot over the span of months. I’m not saying I was the first person to push Skyzoo or Joell Ortiz or Hurricane Chris (I’m sorry about this one too, really) or Fat Al but I do know I have given them an opportunity to be heard and taken notice of. But Mally? Yeah, that’s all me homeboy!

I swear people irritate you when they ask you to blog on something. If I don’t want to do it, it ain’t gonna be on there. Friends throw out disclaimers at times asking you “is this going to be blogged about?” Well, yes. Sometimes I do take in a lot of what surrounds me. When the De la Hoya vs Mayweather fight was on, somebody asked that question. Since the element of surprise was gone, I decided not to carry on with that post.

The daily grind is something, I tell you. I wake up every morning and one of the first things that pops into my head is: I need to post today. Getting material ready in time to post takes hard work and consistency. Tons of ideas arise but very few get written down and even a smaller amount gets posted. But once a habit forms, it becomes routine.

Help is crucial. Support goes a long way. I was shy in telling my family, brother and friends that I’d started a blog. It can be a running joke on me of who wastes their time the most. I win usually and not to my liking. The fam and the friends don’t visit the site, at all. The exception is my mom, surprisingly, and of course, Mally. Much thanks to them. Without much input from people you’ve met and know, blogging early on can become a chore.

Yet the random viewer's support everyday is great. It helps a lot. And the fellow bloggers that have befriended me, much less over the internet, is gratifying. The support keeps this site going.

It gives me fulfillment that what I put out everyday will be heard and read. Someone around the world will read me and feel something. I am paying forward knowledge and entertainment. The anonymity and randomness of the internet is an odd fit but I believe the net is an unlikely source for progress in everyday life.

I saw Tabi Bonney's "Pocket" video a few months back. It didn't really register because I had never heard of him before whatsoever, no blogs, no mixtapes, nothing. But I remembered it and him probably because "The Pocket" is quite different. When I got a hold of his album A Fly Guy's Theme a month ago, I definitely was intrigued to hear what he was on. The beats, I'd say, are the best thing about it; they're completely different than anything you've heard in a while. His content is quite thin but that's not to say he cannot speak. Rather what he says lies on fashion and well, being fly. And it seems as if he contends that his style is the DC (Washington, D.C.) thing. Even from hearing his sounds and content it is still hard to categorize him, which is probably a good thing. His flow is pretty decent as it has a vibe to it. I don't love all of the album but I've got to say the whole thing is a good ass listen. "The Pocket", "On It" and "Top" stand out.
