T-Pain Weezy* Can't Believe It

What's with the circus theme, can't believe it, huh? I found my answer seconds later: 33 Ringz. That's T-Pain's new album title. I've dug the song since it came out a while back thus I'm quite surprised that it floated under people's radars (or they don't care, shame on you, by the way). The video is mad trippy, especially when people continue to blossom from mouths, feet, fire etc. The lyrics are non-sensical like "I'll put you on a jet ski/somewhere in Helsinki." I forgot "Ooooh. Yeeeah." The laid back beat and the hook's are where it's at. So that's what comes out of T-Pain's top hat? I guess he's been suited all along with his apparel. The original song didn't have a Weezy* verse but this one does, sorta. Love when Weezy* sprouts and continues to sprout from himself. Make sure you watch the video multiple times. There's some cryptic details you pick up. Best video in months (no sarcasm).

Mikey rocks. I guess if having shark tattoos on your calf/shin/ankles (both legs) is rocking. Fuck hating on the Cool Kids; I'm just scratching my head out loud at Mikey. Shark tattoos? That ain't even hipster, Hip-Hop or Rock. That ain't even 80's. That's retarded. On to their supposed new single for When Fish Ride Bicycles "Pennies". Oh, shit they're going to spin "A Milli" and talk about lo-fi flyness. Way off. The beat was fine. What is Inglish talking about: the 80's Pistons; an Allen Houston reference (that's like the '95 Pistons!). Mikey stunk it up more than the feeble Inglish. His verse was on some back-packer shit, describing everything he did that morning. How many songs can you have about basement parties and loud music/disturbing the neighbors or, how many songs can you have saying nothing logical/relevant? Freeze. Royce is like the 10th rapper I look for these days. Isn't that something? I usually forget about him when I think of my favorites; and more so it seems the blogs respect the dude as well yet underrate him. With Bar Exam 2 coming in 10 days or so, I can't wait; it'll be the best mixtape this summer. That "I'm Me" flow he leaked a few months ago was the most vicious moment this summer by any rapper. And I thought Weezy* killed that beat. He had me when he admitted to being salty and beefing for no apparent reason. Game has beefs with everyone. Royce has beef with everyone including himself. That aggression is quite apparent throughout his work and is a plus. "Going Nutz" is another beauty. For 3 minutes his goes in. Royce somehow makes his voice an instrument. The way he finishes words, he adds an extra emphasis at the end. He enunciates every word and rarely cuts words off. Along with making the end of his words ring, the fact that he crams so many heavy bars together makes him that much better. So what if I don't understand what he says at times, Royce is a beast! "I'm the first one to spazz, yup, the last one to spit."

T.I. struck out, then Jeezy and now Luda. The ATL is suffering from overachieving. All their supposed top flight rappers are not delivering anymore. Texas fell off. LA and Memphis acts barely bubbled. I never felt any FLA cats. The South is, er, been over.

Besides "No Matter What", the few leaked tracks from T.I.'s Paper Trail have been making me look the other way. Ignoring his decline is the best way I can deal with this reality. I've felt like this album was going to be questionable considering his case. Can he go on wax talking wreck less like he used to? So this was the true test then, is T.I. more than a thug? Not so far. If "Whatever You Like" and "Like I Do" are the aftermaths of T.I. running a foul, I will not be a part of him anymore. There's something about rappers making techno/rap jams with Dream and club records that riles me up. Especially when they used to be better than that.

Jeezy is still around. After hearing "Crazy World", I'm clearly not feeling his Recession era. This whole recession issue has been going on for 7-8 years since the dot-com bust, the Bush era and 9/11. So it took this long for Jeezy to get on this subject? Not buying his sincerity or his sudden consciousness. Plus the beat eats ass and is something circa Southern Rap 2005. That Prime Minister tape got 4 tracks spun around my way--it was that stank! His "Put On" lyrics were fairly weak. Couple that with the vocoder and a random Ye verse and the song is barely tolerable. But listening to Jeezy's raps is harder than ever. His skills are lacking. You'd a thunk he'd stepped up his game over a few years but no. And his flow is the same, same, same!!!

Why should I even bother with Luda? I've felt like he's had the talent to deliver a classic all these years but he quickly took the Top 40 route and has become regular (been regular for like 5 years plus too). "What Them Girls" is worse than "Money Maker". Really Luda, this is the best poppy sounding shit you could come up with. NOTE: Chris Brown does not necessarily make a Rap song better with a hook. The Preview was okay, like, I could get through it. "Wish You Would" is not as good a surprise collabo as it should have been. Liked T.I.'s verse better than Luda's but that's not saying much either. Theatre of the Mind will have worthy 3 tracks like every other Luda album. What's different!?!

Forgot to remind y'all of how sick Gemstones can be. The recent tape wasn't all fire but it was some good, good. Gemstones is all flow. Damn if he switched up the flow every track. "Time" and his "Good Morning" flow were my favorite but there were quite a few times he redrumed the beat. And he mimicked Big Boi's voice on the Ye track. The only moment of concern was his content. It's as if he's a community rapper, like he writes to play the part of a role model for kids in the ghetto. Certain bars reappear often too. E.G. buying his mom a house.

It's number 9, Donny. Gimmicks have taken over Rap these days. Weezy*s unabashed mixtapes to Crooked I's weeklys to Young Jeezy's drop every Tuesday until 9.2.02. Most of them quite creative yet become annoying fast. Case in point AC's 20 flows blog drop a while back. It was like mad creative. But, I have yet to unrar. it and listen to it. If he tries that gimmick again, he'll catch an L for it in my book. Turn to Donny Goines. Now, I haven't watched all of these but the initial idea is amazingly simple: post up on a block and bring in an underground NYC emcee, then press record. Love the no beat too. I could see this continuing for a quite a bit. "It seems like the more you wanna be mes right, the more that I realize I don't need hype," ouch Skyzoo. Donny says,"Money talks but that's not my language" and that's what it's all about.
